Hi there! 你好!

You can call me Kevin Li or 李元. Welcome to my home on the internet.

On this page I will talk about my background including where I am from, what I enjoy doing, and what I am currently working on.

Thanks for stoping by!

Baotou, Inner Mongolia

The city where I was born. The place where I went to school, made a friend, and fell on my head for the first time. I’ve learned so many things from here, including how hard it is to say farewell when I was 9.

Tianjin

Here I spent the majority of my teenage years. Living in a metropolitan area for the first time, I realized how big this world can be. Should I settle for the status quo, or should I find out how much more there is to explore? In 2015, my family and I decided to venture on the road less traveled by.

Wilmore, KY

Kentucky, known for its horse racing, bluegrass music, and, of course, fried chicken. This is where I spent my first three years in the U.S. attending high school. I am forever grateful for the experience I had with my host family, friends, and teachers who helped me when I needed them the most.

Gainesville, FL

I spent 4 years studying biomedical engineering at the University of Florida. This is where I found my research interest and passion in regenerative medicine. I am so fortunate to have met so many great friends who supported, mentored, and challenged me on my way to achieving my goals.

Research Triangle Area, NC

This is where I currently am, pursuing a Ph.D. degree with a focus on regenerative medicine at the UNC/NCSU Joint Dept. of BME. This unique joint program combines forces between excellent clinical environment and engineering facilities to bring out interdisciplinary research to restore health. I cannot wait to see what’s to come during the rest of my time here.

What i am currently doing

Here are some of the things I am working towards as I go along my days.

Dreaming

Being a physician has always been my dream career. The profession is constantly challenging, and pushes me to be a lifelong learner. It also offers a holistic approach to caring for individuals, and provides the emotional reward of making someone feel better. I’m also fascinated by how healthcare can be improved by the ever advancing technologies. I’m currently working towards a biomedical engineering degree and preparing for applying to medical school.

Taking

Since the first day I was born I’m constantly taking information. From learning how to walk to making new friends, from formulating a world view to understanding who I am, those information enables me to learn and improve. Yet, as I learn, the world is becoming bigger and bigger, and I am becoming smaller and smaller. That’s why I have to keep taking. Because it allows me to keep up with the pace of the ever changing world.

Building

The world is getting smaller, but sometimes people are getting farther apart. I see the importance of building bridges, relationships, and connections in order to ensure dialogues. And dialogues offer the possibility of understanding each other culturally, socially, and ideologically. Only then, we are able to have less conflicts and more cooperations between individuals, communities, and nations.

Giving

My dad has always encouraged me to be the salt and light of the world. Taking knowledge means nothing without the intension of giving back. It brings me joy when I am able to provide something beneficial to the world. The reason I started a YouTube channel is I see it as a great platform to educate and entertain. It is an honor to offer my perspective on a certain topic while making someone’s day.

things I do for fun

Tech 🖥

I love gadgets! I’m always following the latest tech news and watching all kinds of YouTube videos about them. Whether it is a new phone, computer, headphone, drone, or even a robot dog, I want to know about it. And yes, I have watches every Apple events since the first iPhone.

Movies 🎞

They are a glimpse of living another life. It never ceases to surprise me how much I can learn from a movie. I truly admire those who have the wildest imaginations and are willing to take me along with them. Besides, movies help me make conversations!

Games 🎮

Games with beautiful narratives can take me to the most fantastical adventures. Some games are thought provoking, some teach me history or science in a fun way, some that make me think, strategically, and some are just fun to play!

Music 🎻

I have always liked either making or listening to music. I started learning the violin since 9. I wouldn’t say I’m that good, but I do enjoy picking it up once in a while. I can also play a little bit of saxophone, harmonica, and a few traditional Chinese instruments.

Photography 📷

This is how I document my life. I want to be able to remember not only the most precious moments but also the daily nuances. I also appreciate how it enables an outlet for my creativity.

Finance 💸

As I step into the second decade of my life, things like personal finance, credit card, stock market that had never crossed my mind are now starting to intrigue me. Let’s put it in a different way, poor college kid trying to get rich…

CAll me a foodie

I enjoy all kinds of food. Whenever I travel to a new place, the first thing I do is try the local cuisine. My friends know me as someone who would eat anything. There are rarely things I don’t like to eat. Yet, I’m also low maintenance. I had peanut butter jelly basically everyday during high school. And nothing beats that instant ramen after I’ve had a long day and too lazy to cook.

Speaking of which, I do enjoy cooking very much. I wouldn’t say I’m great at it, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve.
